Defensive concerns for Davy

Ahead of their eagerly anticipated clash against Clare this Sunday, Wexford have a number of defensive issues to deal with according to their manager Davy Fitzgerald.

The game sees Fitzgerald come up against his native county and former charges at Innovate Wexford Park, but he will have to do so without some key players.

Already out are defensive lynch-pins Simon Donohoe, Eoin Moore and Willie Devereux, while Padraig Foley, Aaron Maddock and Joe O'Connor may not be used as they are in Fitzgibbon Cup action on Saturday.

Definitely out of the game is Jack Guiney who looks set to need surgery on a knee cartilage problem and could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

"We are seriously short of defenders," Fitzgerald told the Wexford People. "This leaves us with the possibility of having to switch a forward back to defence.

"Colm Kehoe is almost match fit, while Michael O'Regan is also progressing favourably, but defence is our problem.

"We are playing the form team of the moment. Clare will not fear coming to Wexford as they will believe they will beat us, but let's put them under pressure. Clare will be a massive challenge as they are the in-form team. I know what they are like."
