Ryan in cautious mood

Westmeath manager Michael Ryan could be forgiven for getting a little excited to see his side top the NHL Division 2A table, but the experienced Waterford native is certainly not getting carried away by their good start to the campaign.

The Lake County made it three wins from three after a hard fought win over neighbours Meath at Trim last Saturday afternoon. This follows wins over Carlow and Kildare earlier in the campaign.

This weekend, Westmeath make the journey to London where they will take on the Exiles at Ruislip and even though they are raging hot favourites to come away with a win, Ryan is certainly not taking their opponents for granted, even though they have lost their opening three games by big margins.

"Three wins out of three and we are off to London next weekend. We can't take them for granted and if we win we are possibly in a league final," Ryan told the Westmeath Examiner.

"We won't be taking anything for granted in London. They have added a few lads to their panel since the first game and there are a few fellows from Kilkenny there. It's in London and there is a lot of pride in those fellows over there.

"If we perform we know we can win the game, but we have got to prepare properly, get to London and get the job done."
