Westmeath manager Colin Kelly is pleased to have another competitive game next Sunday.

The former Louth star guided the Lake County to their first O'Byrne Cup final in 13 years yesterday when they defeated Offaly by two points in Mullingar. The final against Meath will take place in Portlaoise, which was also the venue for Westmeath's last success in the pre-season competition 30 years ago.

"There is too much emphasis in the GAA with this craic about down-time. What's wrong with playing every Sunday?" Kelly asked in the Irish Sun.

"I want to play games. It's all about games. We are going to play in one of the competitions we can win, in a final, and it's going to be live on TV in O'Moore Park with a big crowd. That is exactly what these lads train for.

"Whether it is the O'Byrne Cup, the National League, or a Championship match - ideally you'd like to be playing games. Luckily, for the last few weeks, we are getting games, training to play matches, so it's a good environment."
