Paul McGinley has revealed that Jim McGuinness will not be returning to his GAA roots any time soon.

The former Ryder Cup captain, who is a close friend of the Donegal 2012 All-Ireland winning manager, was speaking at the GAA's Games Development Conference at Croke Park on Saturday.

McGuinness left his role as assistant coach at Chinese Premier League club Beijing Sinobo Guoan last week for family reasons, but McGinley says the 45-year-old will continue working in soccer and plans to complete his UEFA 'A' coaching badge this summer.

"I spoke to him last week. Jim's okay," the Irish golf legend said.

"He's on a plan. A lot of things are confidential that I can't talk about but he's on a plan. He's got one year to go before he's fully qualified and he's flying through his exams, and doing great."

"He's learning everywhere, he's going to conferences all around Europe. [He has] a big connection obviously with Celtic. Don't worry about Jim McGuinness. He's not coming back to the GAA, put it that way. The Dubs can take a big, deep breath!

"I think he's a year away from [getting his UEFA Pro License]. He's been flying through his exams, he's on a good path."
