Down boss Eamonn Burns says he's keen to inject some more fresh talent into his squad for next month's Dr McKenna Cup campaign.

This year's championship saw the Mourne men turn a few heads when they reached the Ulster final for the first time since 2012, with newcomers such as Niall Donnelly, Shay Millar and Joe Murphy impressing along the way.

Now Burns feels it's important that his team unearths a few more stars as they look to build on this past season.

"Obviously we have had players who have come in and performed well for us, but it is important that we continue to make our squad as strong as possible," Burns told the Belfast Telegraph.

On his hopes for 2018, he added: "While we would like to get promotion to Division 1 and then build on the championship progress we made this year, we will just take each match as it comes along."
