The controversy that surrounded Pete McGrath's departure as Fermanagh senior football manager was a difficult period for county board chairman Greg Kelly and the executive committee.

The former Down All-Ireland winning manager had been re-appointed for the 2018 campaign, but unrest amongst the players saw the county board do a u-turn and instead Rory Gallagher ended up getting the job.

Speaking to delegates at this week's annual convention, Kelly stated that it was not easy dealing with the whole situation and he added that they wished McGrath all the best in his new role with Louth.

"The most difficult situation that I and management had to deal with during the year was the departure of Pete McGrath," the Fermanagh Herald reports Kelly as stating.

"We wish him well in his new post as manager of Louth."
