Michael Glavey's and Roscommon footballer Gary Patterson admits winning county and club provincial medals in the one year is something beyond his wildest dreams.

Patterson was part of the Roscommon squad that defeated Galway in the Connacht SFC final last July and on Sunday last, he added a provincial club IFC medal to his list of accolades this year when Michael Glavey's defeated Galway's Claregalway in the final.

"It's just fantastic," he told the Roscommon Herald. "It's a great day for the club. All the hard work during the year has finally paid off. I'm just really delighted for the whole team and management.

"Obviously winning a Connacht title with Roscommon was special but to win a provincial title with the lads you grew up with is just unbelievable."

Patterson is now hoping that they can take inspiration from last year's Connacht club IFC winners, Westport who went all the way and claimed All-Ireland glory.

"You look at Westport and what they achieved last year. They won the Connacht final and went all the way." He added: "In fairness to the players, they've bought into everything we've done this year. Iain (Daly) and his management have been so professional. It's just a credit to the lads who have worked so hard."
