Nicky Rackard Cup round-up: opening round victories for Sligo and Armagh

Sligo and Armagh got their Nicky Rackard Cup campaigns off to winning starts today.

The Yeats County overcame hosts Louth on a 2-24 to 1-19 score-line at Dowdallshill.

A closely contested opening period had finished with the teams deadlocked on 1-13 apiece.

At the Athletic Grounds, Armagh finished with six points – 2-20 to 2-14 – to spare over visitors Monaghan.

Second half goals from Dylan McKenna and Nathan Curry (penalty) sowed the seeds for the Orchard County’s success.

Monaghan’s green flags arrived courtesy of Tadhg Campbell and Fergal Rafter (penalty) in each half.

The scoreboard read Armagh 0-12 Monaghan 1-9 when the first-half action came to a close.
