Suspected arson attack at birthplace of Ulster GAA

The Northern Bar in Armagh city

There was a major blaze yesterday at the venue where Ulster GAA was founded.

The Northern Bar in Armagh city bears a plaque on its outside wall commemorating the establishment of Ulster Council in the building on March 22nd, 1903.

But disaster struck as more than 30 firefighters battled a blaze at the pub on Monday morning.

According to ITV, police are working on the theory that the fire at the historic Railway Street site may have been started deliberately: “Following an inspection of the premises we believe that entry had been gained to the bar sometime in the early hours of this morning and the bar then ransacked and set alight.”
