Former Antrim star Ciaran Barr is the new GPA Head of Finance and Operations.

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) has announced the appointment of former Antrim hurling star Ciaran Barr as their new Head of Finance and Operations.

The 56-year-old will join the players' body next month from the pharmaceutical company Theramex where he was the Chief Financial Officer and a board member. He brings with him more than 25 years' experience in the pharmaceutical, financial services, telecommunications and travel industries, and has held various roles in GE Capital, BT, TUI and Bank of Ireland.

As a player, Barr captained Antrim in their 1989 All-Ireland SHC final defeat to Tipperary - their first appearance in the decider since 1943 - after winning an All Star at centre forward the previous year. He also won county titles in both Antrim and Dublin with O'Donovan Rossa and St Vincent's respectively.
