Former Antrim captain Simon McCrory has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The St John’s clubman made his debut for in 2007 and went on to become a key defender for the Saffrons.

Speaking to The Irish News, the 32-year-old expressed concerns over the way the direction the inter-county game has gone in recent years.

“The demands in term of training and being ready for matches, I just found life very difficult to manage and trying to find a happy medium, a balance,” he said.

“I just don’t know how some players do it. I see the top players in my own county and they seem to do it so well.

“I wasn’t able to do it well, so I needed help to support me in my life. Thank God I turned to the GPA to help me.”
